Aglaja Veteranyi
Aglaja Veteranyi (1962–2002) was a Swiss writer of Romanian origin, from a family of Romanian and Hungarian descent. She was born in Bucharest but eventually settled in Switzerland with her family of touring circus performers. She is best known for her novel Why the Child Is Cooking in the Polenta. She was the founder of the literary group Die Wortpumpe, and co-founder of the theatrical troupe Die Engelmachine. Her texts were published in numerous magazines and anthologies. In 1998. she was awarded a grant by the Literariche Colloquium Fund from Berlin, and in 2002 she won the Chamisso-Foederpreis prize. In the same year, she ended her life by committing suicide.
